Party

While one bad meal won’t make you fat, and one good meal won’t make you skinny, it’s impossible not to notice that all of the playing this month brings an extra inch or two to our waistline. If you’re eating more, and moving less, there are a few things I’ve learned along the way to get around that feeling of “fatness.”

If you want to, you could choose to let yourself go… if you want to gain 10 easy pounds, that is. Just let it all hang out with no restraint – eat, drink, schmooze and booze, as much as you want. But if you don’t want to buy a whole new wardrobe, (because 10 lbs. does take you to the next size!) there are easy method choices that really do help.

If I need to do something in a hurry, or clean out what I’ve done over the weekend, I personally eat as much raw food as possible – fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and fiber. It’s a great way to eat without limitation, letting my energy soar, and getting that fasting feeling of bliss and happiness. A heavier meal at the end of the day (fish, or clean protein) can be eaten for dinner, along with vegetables, if you’re really hungry. If you’re in the process of healing your adrenal glands, eating protein throughout the day helps immensely, and of course, I’m a broken record – limit grains and sugars.

Let’s talk alcohol! While it’s hard to be at a party without it, make sure to never drink on an empty stomach. The alcohol with the lowest sugar content is dry red wine varieties, along with vodka, gin, rum, tequila and whiskey. However, all of these are more calorie dense than carbs and protein so steer clear of overindulging. How does alcohol sabotage the waistline? Well, your body starts burning alcohol immediately, which means it stops burning stored fat until the alcohol is metabolized. If you’re eating clean and lean, and not getting the results you want, try cutting out the alcohol.

Sorry to tell you, if you want the best results – you can’t have everything. Choose only one thing to indulge in. If you want your dessert, go light on the alcohol. If you want your bread at dinner, go light on the dessert. I really hate the word moderation, but during the holidays it’s kinda necessary.
